UC librarians have been working without a contract since October 1. Their first bargaining session of the new year will be held on the UC Davis campus tomorrow. UC-AFT, the union that represents UC’s non-senate faculty and librarians, have asked for ladder faculty support as they bargain for issues we all care deeply about, such as Academic Freedom rights for their members and to reduce the 30% disparity in pay UC librarians have relative to CSU librarians (UC ladder faculty are over 8% behind their comparison 8 peers in total compensation).
Faculty can show support by attending the bargaining session itself. It is an open bargaining session and UC-AFT has invited faculty to attend, particularly for the morning portion, which begins at 10 am. Bargaining will be at the Western Human Nutrition Research Center (map), and UC-AFT will be running a shuttle service from Shield’s library. If you are interested in a seat on the shuttle, contact Adam Siegel.
There will also be a rally at noon on Tuesday outside of Shield’s Library.
And, finally, if you have not done so already, the Academic Freedom for UC Librarians petition is still open for signatures.
