In the wake of yet another horrendous shooting at a school campus, the Davis Faculty Association at the University of California at Davis expresses its support and encouragement of students and young people around the country who are demanding an end to the easy availability of assault rifles and other weapons of war. Here at our own campus in Davis, faculty and staff are regularly invited to workshops on “active shooter survival” as if these military skills are normal alongside our regular academic and research activities. The easy access to military hardware must stop. We demand action be taken by our political leaders to ensure students can come to campus to learn, study and flourish, free from the fear of random acts of gun violence.
