Librarians Kicking Off Bargaining April 17

Dear DFA colleagues,

Many of the challenges faced by UC faculty that the DFA addresses are shared by UC staff.  We therefore forward the email below, from UC librarians, to you. They are interested in our support. As you can imagine, librarians not only need to deal with the ‘usual’ issues facing UC employees, but are in a unique (and vulnerable) position due to the extremely rapid changes in their profession.

Hey compañeros,

Just wanted to let you all know that UC Librarians will be kicking off bargaining on Tuesday, 17 April, in Berkeley. We are planning actions for all the campuses that day.

Our main contract demands are salary parity with the CSUs/CCs and academic recognition/freedom. Our broader demands include free public higher education for all Californians and the abolishment of student debt.

Davis action will likely be in front of Shields Library, with the highest intensity between 11-1 or so. We’ll be sending out more information as we continue planning.

If there are social media channels we can use to get the word out, please let us know.

ALSO: We are sunshining with UCOP on April 4 (2-4) and April 16 (2-4).  We really want the phones ringing off the hook. If you would like to call in and offer support for our demands, please let us know your name(s), which day(s), and what time(s). We’re scheduling calls in 5-10 minute blocks for those two days.

ANOTHER ALSO: If you could commit to wearing buttons or appropriate colors on the 17th, we’d appreciate it.

LAST ALSO: UC-AFT stands in support for UPTE and 2865 as they continue to bargain. We stand in support with 5810 in their organizing drive.  Please let us know what we can do to support everyone.

Solidarity,

Adam
