I am forwarding the message copied below, which was sent to the DFA and other UC Faculty Associations on behalf of the chair of the Irvine Faculty Association.
Don Palmer,
DFA Chair
Dear FA colleagues:
I write on behalf of IFA to ask you if you would please circulate this petition to your campus FA members on behalf of members of the IFA and our local FJP chapter.
Petition link: https://forms.gle/sBbbswcDi4Msxjtb6.
The petition concerns the weaponization of student conduct allegations at UCI against 6 students, both grads and undergrads, for peaceful, entirely legitimate protests. We know that this is happening on many UC campuses right now. There is a specific history at UCI as regards SJP in particular, and as many of you already know, our chancellor sent an email to the campus community falsely representing UC wide policy on discrimination and attempting to establish an association between anti-Zionism and anti-semitism that we fear he intends to use to repress political and academic speech at UCI.
With that in mind, if you can forward this from us to your campus-level membership ASAP, we would really appreciate it. The first student conduct meeting is Friday and we hope to get an initial list of UC wide signatures to Gillman and the Regents by Thursday in advance of that. This petition is ONLY for UC Senate and Non-Senate faculty; others can sign the public petition linked in the doc.
Thanks,
Annie (IFA Board Chair)
